JE Dunn Headquarters

In 2009, JE Dunn planted its stake in the East Village of Kansas City, anchoring an area that was primed for future development. JE Dunn leadership assembled a team of architects and interior architects to create a new, six-story precast concrete structure for its national headquarters. The building received LEED Gold certification and showcased JE Dunn’s specialties in various construction methods.

Celebrating its centennial, JE Dunn has doubled down on its commitment to downtown Kansas City and its employees. Their leadership engaged Helix to reimagine their headquarters into a model for contemporary, human-centered workplace design.

The interior of the revitalized JE Dunn Headquarters narrates the compelling story of the company and its people. Rooted in the tradition of using raw materials, the existing structure sets a solid foundation. Much of the building’s original infrastructure was able to not only be repurposed, but celebrated in the new design. Helix built upon what was already there by blending construction materials with refined finishes. The current modern design, accentuated by natural elements, is elevated with warm wood tones, organic textures, and other natural finishes. The results are inspirational spaces filled with new energy.

The new headquarters features amenities including wellness rooms, private fitness and stretching studios, and a work cafe. To foster collaboration, the space incorporates a variety of seating options and informal meeting areas. Underutilized areas have been transformed to enhance the client experience through the use of branding and storytelling.
